Instant implants: biological and clinical aspects
Fabio Vignoletti
Many experimental and clinical studies have assessed bone healing dynamics after tooth extraction describing what occurs within the socket as well as the dimensional changes taking place at the socket bone walls. To overcome such dimensional changes, different techniques have been proposed, mainly socket preservation and immediate implant placement. Several surgical techniques, such as flapless, flapped with guided bone regeneration and/or connective tissue graft as well as different autogenous or exogenous graft biomaterials have been associated to this latter surgical protocol. It is the objective of this presentation to review the most relevant factors influencing the outcomes of this therapy and describe the most up to date state of the art of treatment in immediate implant placement.
